Thermal Decò style, the artisitic talent of Galileo Chini and the Berzieri Thermal Spa Palace of Salsomaggiore

Artistic Pottery by “Chini Furnaces” from Borgo San Lorenzo (Florence)

The permanent exhibition set up at the Berzieri Spa Palace it’s a selection of the precious production of ceramic, stoneware and maiolica decorative elements and glasses made by Galileo Chini (Florence, 1873-1956) during his journey in Bangkok (Siam, nowdays Thailandia) for the Palace itself.

These precious potteries were made by the Chini Furnaces from Borgo San Lorenzo (Florence) for being part of the dècor and furnitures of the monumental thermal palace.

The magnificent thermal palace was designed and built from 1912 to 1923 by the architect Ugo Giusti in cooperation with Giulio Bernardini and enriched with the extraordinary decorative scheme created by Galileo Chini.

The florentine artist Galileo Chini was influenced by a long journey in the East from 1910 to 1914. There he attended to the decoration of the throne hall in Bangkok invited by the king of Siam Rama V. After that journey Chini came back in Italy and started working on the Berzieri project where he reported exotic suggestions influenced by his recent eastern artistic experience.

The Exposition at the Berzieri Palace counts about a hundred elements in potteries, glasses and a plaster cast, some precious and unique architectural decorations we can find set on the inside and outside walls of the palace. The sheet of glass with the RTS mark is a decorative element we can find on some of the wooden doors.

The visit to the Chini collection is a unique and unforgettable experience to not miss!
