Parmigiano Reggiano Museum (Fontevivo)

The Parmigiano Reggiano Museum in Soragna moved to Fontevivo on 13 June 2026, to the former Capuchin Church at Piazza Convento 1, and is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10.00 to 18.00.

The museum offers visitors insights into the historical tradition, as well as machinery and tools used in the production process.

Housed within the former Capuchin Church in Fontevivo, the new Parmigiano Reggiano Museum brings together over 150 historical artefacts, period images, documents, working tools and immersive digital installations. The exhibition takes visitors through every stage of production: from the meadows to the cowshed and the transport of milk, from the formation of the cheese wheel to the maturing process, right through to marketing and quality control.

The church’s side chapels mark the different narrative sections of the museum, whilst the apse houses the ancient copper vats used for cheese-making. A large immersive video projection brings to life images and gestures from production past and present, weaving together historical memory and new contemporary forms of expression.

The museum is designed as a space to be savoured at a leisurely pace, combining interactivity, cultural insight and sensory experiences. Alongside the exhibition itinerary, there are guided tastings, educational workshops, family activities and in-depth sessions dedicated to the region’s gastronomic and production culture.

As part of the Food Museums network in the province of Parma, the new Parmigiano Reggiano Museum serves as a unique gateway to the Food Valley: a place where the story of the cheese intersects with the ancient Cistercian abbeys, rural landscapes and cheese dairies that have defined the identity of this region for centuries.
