Recommended: "Stirone Cycling Route" The route is divided into the Stirone and Piacenziano Regional Park, only a few kilometres from Salsomaggiore and Tabiano Terme.

Description Although not difficult, the Stirone cycle route climbs long into the valley floor of the eponymous stream, on a pleasantly eventful and sometimes rather rough path (narrow passages, abrupt turns on a stony bottom or with holes, roots, etc.). The landscape ranges from the expanses of fields interspersed with rows of large trees (oaks, mulberries) to the hilly woods that line the heights of Vigoleno, passing through the river environment of the Stirone, sunken between steep escarpments and with constant spots of willows and poplars. The colorful flight of the hamps or the observation of the fossil record make the excursion even more exciting. There is no lack of historical-monumental reasons related to urban traits (Fidenza, Vigoleno, Salsomaggiore) or to individual buildings insulated in the rural context (the Romanesque churches of San Nicomede and San Genesio). The itinerary is ringed with some variants to use depending on the seasonal variables or depending on the place of departure.

Bike + train. The itinerary includes the departure from Fidenza (12 km from Salsomaggiore) Departing from the station of Fidenza and crossing the old town you will reach, in the suburb "Light" (periphery of Fidenza towards Salsomaggiore), the right hydrographic embankment of the Stirone that will act as director of the itinerary. A detour on traffic-free roads allows you to bypass the confluence of the Ghiara stream after which you go up the side of the river to Scipione Ponte. Other sections on trail a short distance from the hive lead to Trabucchi, now in the high course, where you can undertake the final ascent to Vigoleno, a hilly village with ancient buildings in the warm and yellowish local sandstone stone. The route then moves on ordinary routes to the spa town of Salsomaggiore from where to plan the return to Fidenza via a comfortable cycle path or by train. Download route map.

Technical information The total distance of the route, in its maximum extent, of about 40 km while 350 are the total difference in altitude. A mountain bike with a working gearbox is recommended.
