The route explores Salsomaggiore’s Art Nouveau style, which is unique and remarkable. Walking in town centre you can admire its splendour and its artistic greatness: historic buildings, monuments and decorations, everything reminds you of Liberty style.
At the beginning of the 1900s Salsomaggiore Terme was one of the most elegant and famous “Ville d’Eaux”, an iconic place in favour where high society came for their holidays and thermal baths.
In Salsomaggiore, the Art Nouveau style and influence can be seen not only in the main structures, but in many hotels and privately owned buildings too. Strolling through the streets of the town centre, the signs, railings, gates, balconies, canopies and decorative elements of buildings all take inspiration from the plant kingdom, creating a marvellous “man-made park”, in perfect harmony with the architecture of the town’s parks and gardens and the decorative elements of the flowerbeds.
All the places reported in this path are located in the city center along the way that connects Lorenzo Berzieri Square to our final destination Viale Romagnosi.
For those who wants to extend their walk it’s possible to reach the historic garden "Mazzini Park", counted in the Emilia Romagna Cultural Heritage.
The park, which displays a meticulous geometric design in keeping with the style of Italian gardens, is encircled by a large ring; inside are pathways and flowerbeds edged with low, evergreen boxwood hedges that trace sweeping Liberty- style curved lines, in addition to several elements reminiscent of typical oriental design, including a pagoda and a lake.
The Berzieri Palace is one of the most complex and fascinating building of the thermal city, landmark of the European thermalism and unique example of thermal Art Decò style. The liberty palace is counted in the Emilia Romagna Cultural Heritage.
