This itinerary developes in the centre of Salsomaggiore Terme and leads you to the discovery of some of the most important monuments of the city, through its parks and its green areas. Start: Viale Romagnosi - Monument to Gian Domenico Romagnosi. The monument, inaugurated in 1874, was dedicated to the great Gian Domenico Romagnosi, the philosopher, magistrate and patriot born in Salsomaggiore in 1761. The monument by the local sculptor Cristoforo Marzaroli is located at the end of Viale Romagnosi, in the flowerbed in front of the Congress Centre and near the Berardinelli Staircase. The path leads us to the second step: descend along the road and follow the boulevard reaching Largo Roma where you’ll find the sculpture "La Nostalgia". The bronze feminine figure, which emanates elegance and sweetness, was realized by Cristoforo Marzaroli in 1864-1865 and is considered his masterpiece. Then go back to Viale Romagnosi and enter the Corazza Park, The park hosts another sculpture by Marzaroli: The Witch, a statue which represents an old lady on a chair, maybe a sorceress, stretched forward with her elbows on her knees. Continue through the Corazza park to reach Via Baistrocchi in the direction of the Mazzini Park. Situated behind the Zoja Thermal Spa, this verdant oasis in the centre of town was created in the early 1900s with the aim of making guests’ stay in the renowned thermal spa resort as pleasant as possible. The Zoja Spa Centre is a modern building designed in the seventies by Franco Albini and Franca Helg. The historic park, counted in the Cultural Heritage of Emilia Romagna, presents a little pond and many secular trees (note the botanical path “Gli Alberi della Regina”). From the park get onto Viale Indipendenza in the direction of the railway station. The small station, built in 1937, reminds the Central Station in Milan and shows various liberty elements and frescoes inspired by the theme of water. The itinerary ends with a nice comeback walk.
